Uwe Truyen

Uwe Truyen graduated at the Hannover Veterinary School in 1986 and did his postgraduate studies a the Institute of Virology,
Hannover Veterinary School (1987-1990), James A Baker Institute at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY (1991-1993), and the Institute
for Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases in Munich (1993-1999). He obtained his Ph.D. equivalent (Habilitation) in
virology in 1995 in Munich, and was appointed Professor for Molecular Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases in Munich in 1999.
In 2001, he left the University to take the position as head of the Central Institute of the Bavarian Animal Health Service
in Poing near Munich. In 2003 he was appointed as Professor for Epidemiology at the Veterinary Faculty of the University of
Leipzig, where he still works.
In 2006, he accepted the Professorship for Animal Hygiene and Control of Epidemic Diseases and the chair of the Institute
of Animal Hygiene and Veterinary Public Health at the University of Leipzig. His main interest has been for many years the
molecular epidemiology of carnivore parvoviruses and feline caliciviruses. In Leipzig, the spectrum of his research broadened
and now includes, among others, Salmonella infections of livestock and Prototheca-associcated diseases of animals, and disinfection.
He was editor of the Journal of Veterinary Medicine series B Infectious Diseases and Veterinary Public Health, and is currently
Editor-in-chief (Virology) of Veterinary Microbiology. Uwe Truyen is married and has three children.
